How he spends his time away from work: Francois loves sailing. In 2002, he spent a year sailing with his family. He enjoys hiking and the outdoors in California.


Francois has co-authored a textbook titled Waste to Energy, Second Edition: Technologies and Project Implementation, with fellow industry leader Marc Rogoff, PhD. The new edition, from Amsterdam-based global publisher Elsevier, explores and clarifies the wide range of developments in Waste-to-Energy (WTE) in the 24 years since the release of the first edition.

How he spends his time away from work: “I love to paint and go hiking.”

How he spends his time away from work: “I’m a private pilot with my own float plane, which I use to fly in and out of my home in a remote part of British Columbia. My wife and I enjoy flying, boating, photography, and the ‘great outdoors.’”

Dan Horst

As a project manager in charge of boiler outages for WTE and coal technologies at InnovativEnergy, Dan has special expertise in WTE outage management and boiler maintenance and has worked as a designer and engineer for energy companies throughout the United States, including Aquilex SMS and Covanta Energy.

At Aquilex SMS, Dan planned and engineered support for construction and outage projects valued up to $3.2 million. He has substantial experience in drafting for industry and is proficient in AutoCAD and other 3D modeling software.

Dan received his bachelor’s degree in electro-mechanical engineering technology from Pennsylvania State University in 2010.

Joe Kozlowski

Joe Kozlowski

WTE Senior Engineer

WTE plant experience: 23

Joe brings 25 years of experience in energy engineering and entrepreneurship to Deltaway. As the founder of Deltaway’s associate company, InnovativEnergy, Joe and his team advise clients on a variety of energy solutions, including combined heat and power, distributed energy generation, alternative fuels, predictive maintenance services and technical consultation. Joe has worked for major energy providers Consolidated Edison and American Ref-Fuel in various capacities.

Joe and his InnovativEnergy team specialize in WTE maintenance and performance optimization for customer’s power generation assets. Highlights of his career include managing the New York City Waterside Generating Station—the largest district steam system in the world, and rebuilding numerous boilers, turbines and condensers. At American Ref-Fuel, he completed construction of two new boilers at the firm’s Niagara biomass facility.

In 1992, Joe earned his Masters of Engineering from Steven’s Institute of Technology, in Mechanical Engineering specializing in Power Generation.
